- Keanu Reeves could be great to voice Shadow in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" due to his soft yet intense voice, which would be perfect for the character.
- The inclusion of Chemical Plant Zone from the video games in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" would be a great way to continue incorporating iconic elements from the game series into the movies.
- Amy Rose appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 would add a fun dynamic to Sonic's story and potentially impact his relationship with his adoptive parents, Tom and Maddie.
The first two Sonic the Hedgehog movies were a booming success, and there are a few features that would make fans love Sonic the Hedgehog 3 even more. So far, Paramount has done a great job incorporating aspects of the original Sonic video games and anime, with references to characters, worlds, and events that fans know and love. Still, several features have yet to be seen in the "live-action" version of Sonic's story, which means they are a must of the threequel, especially if it winds up being the final installment in the franchise.
The 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehog had a lot of differences from canon, and while this is usually an issue with long-time fans, Paramount found a way to make it work. The idea of Sonic finding a human family to love is a touching one and provides a unique concept that makes the story fun and interesting for a wider variety of audiences. Of course, you can't have Sonic without Tails and Knuckles—even in a different version of reality—so this pair was added to Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Now, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on the horizon, there are several more features from canon that fans would love to see, as well as a few new ideas that just make sense.
10 Keanu Reeves As Shadow
The post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 gave audiences a glimpse at Shadow the Hedgehog, so the character will surely appear in Sonic 3. This knowledge has been the driving force behind the conversations surrounding this newest installment in the franchise and has brought up the discussion of who should voice Shadow's character. Fans seem to overwhelmingly agree that actor Keanu Reeves would be just right for the part. His soft, sullen voice would be perfect for Shadow in his calmer moments, and scenes in John Wick have proven that Reeves would have no problem with a bit of rage.
9 Chemical Plant Zone From The Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Game
One of the cleverer aspects of the Sonic movies has been how they incorporate the platform zones from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. The first movie featured Sonic's home planted, which looked a lot like the first zone gamers ever saw, the Green Hills Zone. Then, Sonic 2 showed the speedy hedgehog snowboarding through icy mountains, just like in the Ice Cap Zone. Then, there was the ancient temple that housed the Master Emerald, which greatly resembled the Labyrinth Zone. If Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were to follow suit, it would be great to see the Chemical Plant Zone incorporated.
8 Sonic The Hedgehog vs. Metal Sonic
Like in the Paramount movies, Dr. Eggman has always been determined to take down his little blue enemy. This is why, within canon, he created Metal Sonic, an evil, robot version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The battles between these two were always a lot of fun, and given the Sonic movies' established reputation for putting together some great fight scenes, Metal Sonic could be a fantastic addition. This would be especially true if Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik doesn't return for Sonic 3—perhaps it could be revealed that he created Metal Sonic at some point in secret.
7 Amy Rose For Sonic The Hedgehog 3
It's still undecided if the Sonic movies will continue past their third installment, which means an appearance from Amy Rose is an absolute must. The character, first introduced in the 1993 game Sonic the Hedgehog CD, fell in love with Sonic the moment she saw him and has been a constant, somewhat loud presence in his life ever since. This could be a lot of fun in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, especially with Sonic's child-like dynamic in this version of his story. A love interest could impact his relationship with his adoptive parents, Tom and Maddie, and would satisfy Amy's fans.
6 Chaos As The Sonic Franchise's Next Villain
Another villain option for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is Chaos—and he's a doozy. He wasn't always a villain in Sonic canon. He had originally been a protector of the Chaos Emeralds, but his rage turned him into the God of Destruction, as seen in the 1998 game Sonic Adventure. In a way, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 already set up Chao's introduction since, in the game, the villain was awoken when Dr. Robotnik attempted to take over the world with the Chaos Emerald. So, going into Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it would make a lot of sense for Chaos to make an appearance.
5 Sonic 3 Should Return To Mobius
The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie revealed that Sonic had been forced to leave his home planet when the Echidna attacked his guardian, Longclaw. The planet shown greatly resembled the first zone of the Sonic games, making it a nostalgic sight for fans, who began calling this planet Mobius after Sonic's canon home. Though it was established that Sonic could not return there, the fact that he is now friends with Knuckles the Echidna could change this. It would be a heart-wrenching return—just the thing for the Sonic threequel.
4 Rouge The Bat Would Be Great For Sonic 3
Sonic canon is full of characters, and fitting them all into Sonic the Hedgehog 3 would be difficult. Of course, if the film is approached like a sort of finale, it would be amazing to see the creatures of the galaxy come together to defend Sonic and his home (from whichever villain Paramount decides to go with). This would mean characters like Espio and the Chaotix could make a valiant appearance. Still, if that's not an option, then Rogue the Bat must appear at the very least. Given her ties to Shadow, this would also make a lot of sense for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
3 Sonic 3 Can Explore Robotnik's Family History
Robotnik's family history is pretty tragic in Sonic canon, and with the Shadow tease in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it seems likely that this will come into play in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Dr. Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, was the genius responsible for Shadow's creation. He had been attempting to find a solution to his grandaughter Maria's terminal illness. Unfortunately, after Gerald was taken into custody by his employers, the United Federation, Maria was killed, and Gerald spent the rest of his life plotting revenge against humanity. It's a pretty tragic story for the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, but if done correctly, the Robotnik family could be a valuable addition.
2 Jim Carrey As Eggman Nega
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 left Eggman's fate unclear, which makes it difficult to say whether Jim Carrey's character will return for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, if the actor were to make an appearance in the threequel, it might be fun if he was a whole new character. In canon, Eggman Nega is technically a descendant of Dr. Robotnik from 200 years in the future. He despises his ancestor thanks to his failures, so it's Nega's goal to do a better job at villainy. If the real Dr. Eggman really was killed by Golden Sonic, Eggman Nega might be the perfect next villain for Carrey to portray.
1 Sonic Throwing Shade At The Mario Movie
Sonic and Mario were rivals long before their respective movies were released. Nintendo's Super Mario video games took the world by storm, and Sonic was Sega's counterweapon. For this reason, Sonic's disgust at moving to the Mushroom Planet seemed like a bit of shade thrown Mario's way. Since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released, Illumination made the Super Mario Bros Movie, which seems like the perfect opportunity for Sonic to get a few more jabs in. Since Sonic the Hedgehog 3, like its predecessors, is set in our modern world, the film could even subtly reveal that Sonic had watched Mario's movie (and he likely wouldn't be a fan).
